Roads, Works and Planning Department

1. To recommend construction and maintenance of roads, causeways, bridges, culverts, footbridges, dams and water reticulation.
2. To recommend to council the purchase and be responsible for the maintenance and disposal of plant and equipment including council vehicles, land & buildings.
3. To prepare and implement short to long-term plans.
4. To provide policies on the planning, construction and use of buildings.
5. To establish new business centres, prepare and develop new residential and industrial layout plans.
6. To consider residential and industrial applications.
7. To facilitate the provision of service of omnibus for the carriage of passengers and parcels within the council area.
8. To provide the lighting of streets, illuminations of roads and buildings.
9. To provide and regulate advertising of hoardings on property under the control of the council and to hire out space on such hoardings.
10. To provide, undertake, maintain or extend, inside and outside the council area any scheme of sewage or drainage for the collection, conveyance and disposal of sewage or storm water and to acquire all the necessary land and premises for the purpose.
